I see... Are this pitfalls in hacker novels or in the behaviour of social network users?

I'm just a user of Linux interested in it's development but mostly in it's cultural impact. I'm currently writing a novel in spanish about hackers trying to avoid all the pitfalls I've detected in novels of the genre.

I live in Mexico, just in the border with the United States, one of the most tumultuous places in the world right now. I've studied computer systems engineering and right now human communication. I'm thinking on doing my masters on hacker culture.

So my link it's mostly cultural, I'm trying to understand the hacker ethic to write better about it. I wish I could send you some samples from my novel, but they're in spanish.

I'd like to stay in touch with you, and anybody interested in helping. We could share ideas.

Nice to meet you.

Building this web-page is not my only aim, I wanna learn through this project. I dont worry about how I make that web-app; if I could not make that, then its ok. My only motto is to learn something.....

Thanks for your reply......
Now a days I wanna make a project for my college tech-festival.
This is a web application scanner project
Objective::-
This 24x7 online web application will help developers and security professionals protect against the threat of attacks and data breaches. If you use your Web applications to collect or exchange sensitive or personal data, this system would give you a detailed automated report on :
• How secure your website is?
• How easily it can be hacked?
• Where exactly is the problem and
• What are the remedies?

This would be a paid service which any web developer/development company can avail. Static pages of this site should give you detailed information of different vulnerabilities and risks.

First tell me, what I have to learn to do this...
I have only 4 months to build it.
I am waiting for your reply....

Hi aquina ,
my name is Gab , i'm italian , and i'm a linux debian system administrator . I can see here you really are what you say . I joined HoH from little , just because everybody has a so called social WEB2.0 space and i'm doing my best to make new friends but it depresses me when people asks me to help them to send a keylogger to their computers meits.
I run a network of recycled computers in my own flat . I host many services: a mixmaster anonymous remailer , postfix mta , a web server apache2 , a tor node , a usenet server , momentarily down due to a HD crash , a openpgp keyserver and a ircd server. I am a fan of cryptography and secrecy of communications, i fight for freedom 'of expression and against censorship (nsa is after me ... :-) kiding! ) and i would be happy if you come to visit me on this pages and than in my network , if you are interested :).
Go on like this.
Ciao !

Backtrack is a wonderful Distro for Pen Testing, based on slackware & (I think) Its developed in Germany.

Ohh you are in for a treat!
If you haven't tried Backtrack Linux and your interested in security, I highly recommend it!

Link:
http://www.remote-exploit.org/backtrack.html

"It's evolved from the merge of the two wide spread distributions - Whax and Auditor Security Collection."

Ohh sorry I meant the current version of Fedora 10 i think. ;)
Would you recommend using Ubuntu over disrto's like backtrack for pen testing research?

Also What OS do you recommend? I was a Ubuntu evangelist for a while, lately I have been digging Fedora C0re!

Do you never use Windows?
Ha! I do love Linux and use it often for work and well anything mission critical, as I know Windows will inevitably fail.
That said M$ has done a good job locking me in, example:
My first CIS class; C.I.S. 101, class where the whole focus of the class was using their different apps in MS Office, no choice no other option given.
Also I love video games and even virtualization is not an option here =(
