House of Hackers

Everybody likes pictures. In fact, the devil is in the details, as people say. Therefore, keeping that in mind, we need to ensure that the front page is as good looking as possible, so that everybody is comfortable with it. I am an aesthetic freak, I know.

I see that there are some interesting blog posts popping up within the network. You can get the full list from here. This is excellent but in order to feature them you have to do just one more thing: Pimp them a little. This is how you do it:

  • Put everything in proper tags. Use <p> although NING kind of resolves this for you automatically. Nevertheless, this is important for your post description.
  • Find a nice free photo. I like to use CC photos because they are safe for use. Don't use photos you are not aware of their license. It is not worthed. When you are using CCed photos make sure that you give their authors some credits.
  • Make an initial capital. This post has something I like to call initial-capital or thumb. It is very easy to do these kind of things. You need to start your post with the following:

    <p><img class="initial-capital" src="http://api.ning.com.................something.jpg?height=100"/>Your first paragraph goes here!</p>

  • Add tags! They do make difference.

This is not a lot! If you have already spent time typing a blog post, why don't you spend 1 more minute to pimp it a little. It will work for you, I promise.

"initial-capital" is it a global stylesheet class? It doesn't work in user page. ;]
