WiMAX is coming...eventually..but too late.

Over 4 year at least. In that time there has been a standard set for infrastructure and security, BT has run trials and sort vendors for hardware. Still nothing.
In the meantime 3G has took off big time and while we wait for WiMAX the mobile telecoms companies are working on there IP based 4th and 5th gen services. Anyway, to the point of the matter. I have a HSDPA usb modem and it rocks, speeds upto 7.2mbps and faster to come and reasonable priced with 3GB costing 15 pound per month. Even better than that, if you go on a 'Pay As You Go' and use the 3GB before the 30 day validation period then you buy another 1GB, 3GB or 7GB and so the cycle continues. You may think this is expensive but when WiMAX finally rolls out maybe the mobile telecoms companies will increase caps to battle it.
The other big issue is security. WiMAX is based on WPA2 which if your fast enough to run a wordlist you can get on before the session key changes. Where as 3G HSDPA has no issues like that being a telecoms network and I doubt other than government bodies, anyone could afford the scanning equipment for UTMS networks, GSM scanning stuff still goes for tens of thousands and you need a government license. You don't have to worry about Rogue APs either, or transmitting data to an unsecured T-Mobile or Openzone hotspot while someone sits at the back of the cafe and grabs your data.
My personal opinion is that by the time WiMAX happens most devices will have HSDPA built in, some laptop manufacturers offer it as an option already, and it will be too late for WiMAX with a secure working system in place. At least for home users.

It's very strange, that in UK there is no wimax yet.
