I don't think so, our media has done avery good Job in getting the word Hacker equal to the word of criminal.
Nearly every week there is at least one newspaper article that teaches the common people with small computer knowledge about all that bad stuff that happens: where the "crimes" are usually bugs found out in the seventies, or some virus allerts (and even there they are not often up to date) made by all this bad hackers out there... Somehow it is a mix between something to cry about and something to laugh about.

At some point in time "Hacker" will be a synonym of "Person with a computer"

well, I guess we shape the world we are living in. at some point in time "hacker" was a synonim of a "cabdriver".

That's somehow depressing, if there were a definitive official definition it would have been interesting to find it on a place like this, made for hackers...
pdp Comment by pdp on May 17, 2008 at 6:47pm
Isethoriginal, I believe that it really depends. my definition is very broad, for example.

geez, so much to learn and so few time for it, i hardly catch up with the news. I was just wondering.. is there a official definition for hacker, or does it really just depend on who you're asking?
