House of Hackers

I don't know if this has been brought up yet but its one of those things that has gotten my attention again. I tried to do this a while back and a friend has been trying to do it to her network so I'm curious again. In an effort to see whats going on in my home network and see how secure it is, I've been trying to sniff to other computers attached to it. I have a linksys wireless router and i'm trying to sniff packets going across it. My computer is wireless and the rest are wired. Is there any way for my wireless computer to sniff packets from the wired computer??

yes, you can do it with cain & abel, theres no sub net, if you are conected to the same network of the wired computers, then yes you can

Or if your using Linux then use Ettercap and Wireshark.

Yes, both of them are on the same network, right? When you say wired, I'm assuming you mean that they are plugged into the linksys wireless router (the one you are trying to sniff) and not that they are on a different wired network.

For network-based cracking, Linux is always the way to go. You can google up some nice Linux tools- e.g Ettercap and Wireshark as mentioned by Mark.

To be specific if you want to read into this I would suggest googling ARP poison routing (APR). If I remember right the last article of 2600 (not the one out now) had a pretty nifty tutorial on how to do this in detail if you can find someone with a backlog of 2600 issues.

I tried cain and abel....I feel like I'm missing something when I"m using it. Technically, we're in workgroups. Same subnet but not connected to a domain. By wired, yes, i mean plugged into the wireless router.

Why are you using Cain & Able? They just have a compiled list of common variable names then adds it to your list. It doesn't actually show you the traffic even though it performs what you are looking for.
