Hello to all of you who are wasting time, reading my post :)
My name is Kriss and i Live in London, I'm a student and right now I'm studding about networking. It's my first year and i have basic knowledge about it. Since i remember my self I've been into computers, and all other technologies..
And I've always wonted to know how the things work. And i always wonted to be a "hacker".
Now I'm 19y old and i know nothing about hacking.. because i had big problem "computer games".
Like 5 months ago when i was doing assignment for my course i accidentally found a guide "how to be a hacker" http://www.catb.org/~esr/faqs/hacker-howto.html Now I'm into it, but i need help.
And there were advise-find other hackers. Hope I'm in the right place.

And one question: Can i install Linux under Windows XP?

You can either install Linux or my choice FreeBSD inside a virtual machine on Windows. However ideally you will want to partition your hard drive and instal Linux/FreeBSD side by side with Windows.

If you are going to install everything from scratch, install Windows then install Linux or FreeBSD. If you install in the opposite order Windows will destroy the boot loader and you will have problems booting to the Linux/FreeBSD partition.

For the Linux question.. yes you can install it as a virtual machine (using software like vmware, virtual pc, virtual box or other) You can also make it a double boot, which is IMHO a better choise. Good luck with that!

God I hate that article. Raymond should stick his hacker emblem with the rest of his crap where it belongs (dark and dirty nether regions no one would ever want to visit).

Anyways, yes, you can use VMware Workstation to sandbox your favorite *nix flavor within your Windows install. Though as others here have said it's best to just dual boot your installation. Anyways, if you want more information on that there's plenty of documentation to go on based on which distro you choose to go with so always check the distro site itself for tips. You can also just use third-party software like Partition Magic to establish your partitions prior to going through the installation process. Good luck either way.

You can partition your hard drive and install linux on the new partition. I'm sure there are some guides somewhere...
