HELP{ Detect user on network connection }HELP;

Hi all i have a bit of a predicament i'm looking to detect users that are or have just connected to a network
i guess its like an IDS but i want to run it under windows not my linux box
network is a DHCP i guess it would detect the arp

Any Comments would be appreciated

Can u not run snort? Works with windows too but not sure how to set up (know it aint too simple)

Yes i tried snort but i prefer the linux version to windows
it is mainly a notified as well i require as like msn popsup with a message to say a contact is online i want it to say
ip and NetBIOS name is online .

I guess i may have to fire up some programming skills
