House of Hackers

Just wanted to throw this out here and see who else feels the same way.

First of all everything we do / use now a days is because a programmer / hacker has made it happen. Yet all these big company's are paying us pennies, when we are taking to long to complete / figure out a hard task we are called lazy, when they can find someone to do the same job for cheaper they fire our ass. Meanwhile they are making millions of dollars off the products we/you create.

I don't know about the rest of you but I am really really getting sick of this. We invented these technologies, what to have the business people come in and try to take it away from us, to claim as there own. Did you hear apparently the internet is going subscription based, where you pay for a package that will give you access to a limited number of websites. (My Space, Facebook, MSN, Yahoo, Google etc...)

I say fuck them its time to take back what is rightfully ours.

What is everyone's opinion on this issue? Any suggests how we can work together to start taking back what should have been ours all along?

Net Neutrality is a must if they remove this then I don't know what I would do, it is blatantly unfair and I hope the world won't stand for it, I know I won't, I have written my representative and signed petitions, if it still goes through I don't know what I will do.
As for the rest, I have tended to work for decent employers who have recognized the hard work that goes into a task. Only once have I seen a glimpse of this sort of travesty when an employer tried to put in a contract that basically gave them rights to all our creativity whether at work or not.

If you create a copyright product on company time, it belongs to the company. If you do it on your own time you can get the patent and market it but you have to beat an idea thief to the punchline...... I dread and fear net neutrality and depend on programmers to prevent it somehow! ;) All the people who make bad comments about people who know less than them, don't realize its like corrupt politicians giving the masses who respect and depend on them the finger!

I know exactly what you're talking about.. Good that my employer did not actually require a stringent NDA and a non-compete clause (I guess they trust us somewhat). But nothing's to stop you to deny signing anything that you feel restricts your rights and freedoms - you can certainly find an employer that will take you without NDAs and whatnot. I remember reading somewhere that a lot of companies are willing to negotiate if you refuse to sign such an agreement, and might just throw it in the trash. Your mileage may vary, as I am in Europe.

It's just a moral choice that we make - more rights versus more money.. I know which one I'm taking.

And if you are sick of working for capitalistic companies - well, you can always start contributing to the open-source community. Granted, it doesn't pay the bills, but you see your name under the list of contributors - and this is arguably much more satisfying than being a nameless developer of Big Juicy Platform 3.14..

Hacking Salaries Yearly:
England - 40-50,000 Euros
Germany - 40-60,000 Euros
Amerika - 70,000 USD and up

Software Engineers Salaries Yearly:
England - 30 - 40,000 Euros
Germany - 40 - 50,000 Euros
Amerika - 100,000 - USD and up

I guess it's all up to you where you want to live.

I guess some people really don't get it.

Sure we can make 100,000 USD to do the job then the person your doing the job for makes $1 billion from the work you have done for 100,000 USD.

I get you.
It's so unfair. Programmers built all of this, and yet it's the technofoobs in expensive suits that make billions every day by it. It's take 'we' take it back. Glad you have the same vision as me.

Business people tried to take part in everything, pumping their money into everything. We should keep silent and just take their money and not tell them that the net is the hackers biggest hoax. In the end, hackers will be the only ones who remain, because hacking isn't an industry, it's a lifestyle of technology enjoyment.

Or you should realise that by not speaking out and being heard they are going to take our technology from us. You might be happy wearing RFID tags so business people know where you are at any given time but I am not. I will do anything in my power to stop things from going that direction even if it kills me.

The only good thing about RFID is I will be making billions on cracking it for the billions of people who want to get free.

Either way if you want to continue being a slave to business people that is your choice and this might be the wrong place for you. The soul lifestyle you speak of is about FREEDOM of information and the ability to try new things without limitations, if you don't understand that you also don't understand what it is to be a true hacker.

I am not a slave of anyone, I am fairly sure I can utter the words: freedom. Because I do what I want, I work for myself, pick the projects I like, saying what I want, kicking the government, free from fear, because I am free. It's a choice. But that doesn't mean I can't earn my money through them. I am not employed, so I can say what freedom is. I don't hack for a living, I hack for my pleasure. I am completely independant, that's freedom \m/

So how free are you?

Well like you I make my own rules. I own my own business. I take control of my own life, and at the same time I am willing to take a stand and fight for what I believe in.

Well as cute as all this e-dissent is, your theory about a subscription-based model is purely conspiracy theorist fodder. It was released by I Power backed by unnamed sources, and some Telus wireless package (5 cents each page) & an unlimited interwebz offer. Truth be told there is no international Zionist, Illuminati backed ISP conspiracy against the internet dwelling proletarians because it violates one of the FCC 4 principles ("consumers are entitled to access the lawful Internet content of their choice"). Of course ISPs have bypassed this stipulation by discriminating and degrading connections to services (the most famous example being Comcast's treatment of BitTorrent users). The point I'm trying to make is we don't need conspiracy theories to support net neutrality. It's a serious enough issue without the tinfoil hats, thank you.

As far as the rest of it, sure, but that's laissez-faire capitalism. How about the Chinese laborer who worked 60+ hours a week, living in tainted living quarters within the factory effectively isolating their daily lives from much of the outside world, just to build those computer parts that allow you to make those meager wages? What's rightfully theirs? Once you can get past the plight of the corpo-"hacker" and her/his paycheck maybe you'll notice there's A LOT wrong with the industry. Good luck with that freedom fighter.

Well it is apparent from your response that you are someone working on behalf of a corporate party.

You make some good points, yes currently we do have the right to “some what” view the content that want. But that is still limited to what other people not us think that we should be able to view. I suppose you also ignore the fact of MS working with the government and implanting back doors in there software. I guess that is another theory that is on hundreds of websites.

As for me myself being a conspiracy theorist is incorrect, I research prior to making an opinion. I have also been in the computer industry for 8 year which I have worked for some big name companies in the technology industry.

Anyways as for your comment on the Chinese labours who are working ridiculous hours to make the technology, they should also fight back. In case you missed what the term of a hacker is. It is a person who creates things and does it because they love it. Sure there are some people who just program or make hardware because it is a job and they thought it would pay well but these are not hackers. Hackers are artist in there own field, whether they are architects making unique homes/buildings/planes etc, programmers pushing new technology, engineers inventing new hardware/lights etc..

The point being the people who are creating new master pieces are the people who should be reaping the rewards. Unless you also agree with the government/other corporations hiring/forcing scientist to develop cutting edge weapons and then killing them once there finished.

You should really do some research on your own with a open set of eyes before you come talking about conspiracy theories and tinfoil hats. It is bluntly obvious that you are a person who thinks no-one is out to do them wrong and all the products ever released to the public is in fact for our benefit and has nothing to do with corporate gain. Or even the fact that both Mac and MS take a free open source OS and return it to use at a nice big price tag. Oh wait I guess that is another conspiracy and neither one of them uses BSD.
