This is a bit of a controversial matter, but considering how hackers tend to be think outside of the box I was curious about your stand in this matter.
Personally I believe in evolution.
edit: I decided up edit this duo poor wording from me. Thanks for pointing it out mindcorrosive :-)
but they do have the ability to change their body.. look at the generations of species of fish for the last few million years.. they change constantly, depending on where they are, what the conditions are, and what predators/food sources are available. clearly you haven't looked much into evolution as a general theory (disregard spontaneous generation or string theory if you want to be a stickler). The fact of the matter is, all species on earth strive to become better and thus survive for longer and become more prosperous - this is evolution. If a species finds an advantage due to experience, it would most likely attempt to relay this information to its young in the hopes of helping them become more prosperous, the same applies to genetic mutations (without the teaching part). Life moves on, things get better at what they do, and evolution continues no matter what. I honestly don't even know why the fuck ID and evolution fit into the same category - evolution explains what happens to species as they grow/expand, and ID tries (terribly) to explain the first existence of life. Sigh, uninformed people never get it right -_-
I think that this sort of theme is not worth to discuss.
all those creationists are searching for one big formula against the truth, and the truth is the evolution-theory. When you look at some creation-theories like the one about the flagellum, all of that bullshit is confuted by openminded scientists.
For me, intelligent design is the same thing as fascism, wrong wrong wrong.........
Well, you can't compare something like fascism to intelligent design. I mean, intelligent design hasn't killed anyone yet.
And being so radical about your beliefs is not good either. Saying "This is the truth and other people with different ideas is denying this absolute truth". That, my friend, is wrong. You should have your mind open to everything. And unless you know something we -and scientists- don't , I think you don't have a definitive proof of evolution being the one and only truth. @Forrest666: Of course, that makes sense. Say, two fishes are born. One of them has an extra fin, making him run faster. The slower one would die soon, because he can't run away from the predators. The faster one would survive, and he'd pass his extra fin to their offspring, is that correct?
Well, about the evolution be the only truth:
A truth is based on facts, so i think we can say that evolution is a truth (but not the only one) because it is based on facts, it happens all the time and we are able to see it. But... as the name says, it is the "Evolution theory"... a theory. We have facts but it is not proved yet. This happens because evolution doesn't explain everything. It does explain the extinction and surge of new species but doesn't explain how life was created.
PS: Sorry to be annoying but evolution is one of my preferred themes he he he!
You're not annoying at all, in fact I think that evolution should be one of the themes of interest of any human being, but unfortunately sports, sex and rock music occupy the attention of most people :P
I think the only reason why the debate about evolution versus intelligent design is so divisive is because both sides can't find a common ground.
Why can't evolution exist with intelligent design? Yes, it's pretty much common belief that the universe is contracting and expanding, causing a Big Bang(s), but maybe there was a higher power that flicked his/her finger to set the whole perpetual machine in motion. Why not? Both arguments are equally valid and invalid: "the universe is because it is and it always has been"..."God is here and always has been".
So other than blabbing along uselessly, I guess my answer to the question is BOTH.
"Intelligent Design" is what "God created man" evolved into. Evolution can be seen in every aspect of our lives. Ideas and religions evolve too. It took thousands of years for monotheistic religions to evolve into what they are today and "Intelligent Design" is just another "mutated" feature that could help to some of them to survive. I do not believe in God, I know there is God, but it's a completely different topic.
well, i'm sorry but i have to put my comment in spanish because i'm drowzy ;)
No matter what stance you take on the Origins of life. It requires faith.
Evolution is something from nothing. ( nada )
Intelligent Design is something from something. ( Transcendental Being(s) )
Intelligent design and Evolution are at each others throats, everyone searching for absolutes. yet.
No matter how deep you search in either the macro or the micro, each layer reveals more complex design and intricacy. ( Its funny how the universe is somewhat recursive lol )
Each side tries to use evidence to point towards one way or another to support their truth claims.
Each side tries to discount each other based on the logic of either. As if one side is more "stupid" than the other.
Neither side can, fully destroy the other based on the fact that they are trying to use and infinitely complex real world system to find absolute Truth. ( hence it will always be faith based )
Nothing emits from chaos.

Something doesn't come from nothing.
You can't run a program that isn't there either.

Personally, I believe that reality has come from and was created by God.
I believe that the Bible is true. And before you start flaming me, I suggest you take a look at where you draw your absolutes from and how you know and define Truth.
Is it really less intelligent than saying I believe in Darwin, and I believe the Origin of Species is true... ;)
